Solange's 8/25 playlist

Last night was so much fun! Dressed up in a lamb av (which, of course, is often the first step toward a good time ;) I played my little lambie heart out for a really great crowd. Many of you that we know and love came by, as well as many new faces that I hope will become regulars, too. The music was mainly things heavy in my personal rotation lately, like White Denim, Yuck, Swimsuit and (yes, again!) Pete and the Pirates. I also revisited a few of my favorite tracks from the last couple of years. If you never got an earful of The Wave Pictures or Firewater, take a listen and see what ya think. I'm fond of both. And here's the whole shootin' match from Thursday night:

Pete and the Pirates-Cold Black Kitty
The Wave Pictures-Just Like a Drummer
Yuck-Milkshake
Loney, Dear-My Heart

Two Little Maids @PTHouse

Two little maids is the total sum of yum-yummy DJs on offer tonight at Propane Teahouse, 7:30-11:30pm. No songs from the Mikado will be played, there will probably not be kimonos nor yukatas nor even even kabuki makeup worn... but we do have saki and sakura.

Solange's 8/18 Set

It was another lovely night for chatting and dancing at The Propane Teahouse this last Thursday. The fabulous Colleen Lilliehook did a guest spot for us. I'll bug her for a playlist to put up here, but I know she is crazy busy these days. It was a treat to get to hear her play again.

As for me, I played a mixed set of old and new tunes - some rock and some on the poppier side. Last month, Sundazed released the collected tracks of Oscar and the Majestics from '63 - '68. If you like garage-y rock, give that one a listen. I really enjoyed it. Also recommended is the latest release from City Center. Although it can be a bit noodley for my tastes, there are still some great singles in there. And I am a fan of the atmospheric, wash of sound they do so well. And, yes, I am still raving about Pete and the Pirates... just keeps getting better every time I listen to it! Here's the list:

Swimsuit-Outside Your Window
Noisettes-Sometimes
Pete and The Pirates-Come To The Bar
Elbow-Grounds For Divorce
Crystal Stilts-Prometheus At Large
The Naked And Famous-Young Blood
Vox Jaguars-Swagger
Arctic Monkeys-I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor
The Go-Go's-We Got the Beat
Fucked Up-Queen Of Hearts
White Denim-Drug
Local Natives-Who Knows Who Cares
Eleanor Friedberger-I Won't Fall Apart On You Tonight
Ray Charles-Early In The Morning
Title Tracks-Tougher Than The Rest
Parenthetical Girls-Young Eucharists
The Horrors-Still Life
Florence And The Machine-Cosmic Love
Hot Chip-Over and Over
Get Set Go-I'll Be Your Heroin
Oscar & The Majestics-Dawn
The Postal Service-Such Great Heights
Julian Casablancas-Left & Right In The Dark
Yeasayer-I Remember
Metronomy-Everything Goes My Way
Culture Reject-Inside The Cinema
The Drums-Down By the Water
Bright Eyes-Middleman
A Sunny Day In Glasgow-So Bloody, So Tight
Young Prisms-Sugar
City Center-Modern Love
Franz Ferdinand-Evil And A Heathen
The Beatles-Back in the USSR

I Heart the 70's Too!

A huge thanks to everyone who came by our 70's event. I had a fantastic time playing for all the bitchin' avatars who showed up to the Rec Room of LOVE. :) It was hard to narrow it down to just one hour of songs, but here's what made the cut:

Talking Heads-Life During Wartime
Bob Marley & The Wailers-One Love/People Get Ready
The Police-Can't Stand Losing You
Steely Dan-Pretzel Logic
Led Zeppelin-Black Dog
Paul McCartney-3 Legs
ZZ Top-Heard It On The X
The Rolling Stones-Wild Horses
Neil Young-When You Dance, I Can Really Love
Leon Russell-Tight Rope
The Cars-Good Times Roll
John Lennon-Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)
The Doobie Brothers-Long Train Runnin'
Elvis Costello-Watching The Detectives

P.S. That Elvis clip is a live one from Top of the Pops, not the version I played, but I couldn't resist it! He looks like a kid. lol

Our "We Love the 70s" event on Monday, Aug. 15 was tons of fun and seemed well received, with a full sim (sorry if you couldn't teleport in :/) and many people dressed in some spectacular 70s get-ups. My musical contribution was an hour of disco, funk and glam classics. Yes, I got to play ABBA, it was magnificent. (I threw out a Bowie tune for the Wild Cherry song request from Sspooky Lane, because it was perfect, of course.)

Barry White - Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe
Michael Jackson - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough

8/11 @ the Teahouse

Last week's set was another mixed bag from me. I started out thinking I'd play some dancey electro, but one thing lead to another, as it usually does, and the set wound up with everything from the folky, REM-sounding Decemberists track to some neo-soul from Ben l'Oncle Soul. These things have a mind of their own, but everyone seemed to enjoy it. A couple of album recommendations: I can't say enough good stuff about the new Horrors album, Skying... love love love it. And I am also really enjoying Boston Spaceship's Let It Beard from ex-GBV guy, Robert Pollard, and company.

The Vaccines-If You Wanna
Sons and Daughters-Breaking Fun
The Kills-Damned If She Do
Ty Segall-Where Your Head Goes
EMA-Butterfly Knife

Woods-Wouldn't Waste
Boston Spaceships-I Took on the London Guys
The Go! Team-Voice Yr Choice
Manaré-Speakeasy
Fitz & The Tantrums-Breakin' The Chains of Love

We <3 The 70s!

081511 We , a photo by Enigma Bombay on Flickr.
DJs Enigma, Solange and Windsor are bringing the best 70s tunes tonight, 7:30-10:30pm in the Rec-Room of Love. Pull out the disco dolly sequins, paisley pants and headbands, or punk plaid and safety pins if you like. Sit next to Mumblin' Joe the drunk punk at your own risk, though; I think he wet himself. (P.S. Sol wants me to say she's not really playing 70s gold, it's more classic 70s alternative/indie... there will be Doobies, though.)

Come join us in Second Life at the Propane Teahouse, we'd love to meet you.

I was lucky enough to do two sets for the cause on Saturday night. Hot-N-Cool Propane

For my July 28 Propane Teahouse set, I was in an eclectic mood; usually I try for a handful of new-new tunes but just wasn't inspired by what's coming out right now, or I've already played what I like, or whatever... so I reached back a few years for a bunch of the songs. This set had a sort of 'lost love' and 'anti-religious' theme going on, it was semi-intentional.

This was the first time I've played Alien Sex Fiend and Ursula 1000 in a Second Life set but sampled electronica felt tasty. New Cat's Eyes album continues to deliver great songs. Played a few new-to-me bands like Holy Ghost!, !!! and Raphael Saadiq, really enjoyed finding Irish rockabilly artist Imelda May on Baeble. Was able to slip in a tune by one of my fave local bands, The Fucking Eagles from Tacoma, WA (who took their name from a Big Lebowski movie quote) and finished things off with an Eric Burdon classic that always makes me misty-eyed.

Archie Bronson Outfit - Magnetic Warrior
Lords Of Altamont - Evil Hearted You [Explicit]
Hurricane Bells - Monsters
PJ Harvey - Down By The Water
My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult - Kooler Than Jesus
Eels - Paradise Blues

Well, hello there (B)Indies! This is my first blog post, so I wanted to pop up and say howdy.

That out of the way...down to business. This past Thursday night I was suffering from the sweltering heat wave covering the middle of the country. My lappy and I both struggled through to bring you a set of cool cover songs. What is a little heat stroke amongst friends when there is dancing to be done?
